What engine would be good for an 86 Jaguar XJS?

What would be a good engine for an 86 Jaguar XJS?

Don't need a beast but something with a little get-up-and-go.

Sub question:

Where online would be a good place to purchase?

Thanks!|||The V12 is a hard engine to work on but should be good for 300hp, so a good one should be first choice. Most straight sixes with their gearboxes will fit but are they going to be as powerfull ?

A good tuned small block V8 will suit and be easy to work on but the XJS is a heavy old bus and there will always be some kid in a chipped Jap screamer that will blow you away.

Best choice - cruise and be seen !|||Original V12. May not be the most advanced powerful or fuel efficient engine but it's just one you those cars you restore rather than improve.|||sting ray 68 block|||Um, a 5.3L HE V12 as original?

If you want a Jaguar XJS, then why would anyone change the engine from the Jaguar V12? It is easily one of the most glorious sounds ever to be found in a motor car. Even in standard trim they put out 300bhp which quite frankly ought to be enough for anyone.
